   “Suitsme”
  Pullman Palace Car 100
"A New England Transportation Treasure for over 75 Years The year was 1928, and Maine’s Bangor & Aroostook Railroad had just put forth its most profitable year ever. Wall Street’s wild tumble was still a year away, and no one could have predicted that the Great Depression was looming ominously in the shadows of our Nation’s history.       (Click on images to enlarge)

The robust economy appeared as if it would last indefinitely, the end of good times, nowhere in sight… In keeping with the costly ostentation made famous by the era’s railroad barons, the President of the Bangor & Aroostook, Mr. Percy Todd, allocated the princely sum of $250,000 for the purchase of a heavyweight “executive car” from the Pullman Manufacturing Company of Chicago, Illinois. Upon inspecting the opulent Pullman for the first time, Mr. Todd was asked what he thought of his new “palace on wheels”. His response-- “Suits me!” and the next day, “Suitsme” appeared in gold on its nameboards. For the next 75 years, the Pullman car was assigned to the President of the Bangor & Aroostock Railroad for his exclusive use in entertaining,

hosting business meetings and providing special travel accommodations for the privileged few. Through the years, the “Suitsme” was meticulously cared for, and seldom, if ever left home rails. In 2003, the Bangor & Aroostook deemed number 100 surplus to their operational needs and the grand Pullman ventured to New Hampshire to take up residence among the foothills of the White Mountains. As such, a new era was born for the 1928 Pullman Palace Car. Now in the loving hands of Pullman Rail Tours, LLC, the “Suitsme” is available for private charter service “along New Hampshire’s lakes, and through the White Mountains”. The Pullman car still graciously plies the iron highway and evokes images make famous by the Golden Age of Railroading. Her grandeur and timeless elegance provide a fitting tribute to a long forgotten era of passenger train travel made famous by “Mansions on Rails”.
